The One-Day Live Colorectal Surgery Workshop and Didactic Lectures held at NMU on 19th and 20th August 2024 was a resounding success. The event featured insightful lectures by Dr. Najaf Siddiqi on laparoscopic colorectal surgery techniques and safety in colorectal cancer procedures, followed by live surgeries, including laparoscopic hemicolectomies and anterior resection, demonstrated by expert surgeons like Dr. Ali Akbar and Prof. Dr. Masood Ur Rauf Khan Hiraj. The workshop provided a unique opportunity for participants to enhance their skills and knowledge in advanced colorectal surgery, receiving positive feedback from all attendees.
On 2nd July 2024, a significant visit took place at the Burn Center in Multan, led by Riaz Malik, a renowned plastic surgeon from the UK and a Regional Executive Council member of NSUK. During this visit, Malik Sahib toured the facility, closely engaging with the staff and patients, and showed a dedicated effort to understand and address the challenges faced by the burn unit. His involvement was highly appreciated as he made a commendable attempt to resolve key issues, providing valuable insights for improvements. The visit was well-received by the team at the Burn Center, who expressed gratitude for his support and initiative to uplift the care and resources available.
The Nishtar Society Executive Members held a productive meeting on June 23, 2024, at the Copthorne Hotel in Slough Windsor. Key decisions included the appointment of Dr. Javed Khan as Joint Secretary and Dr. Shahzad Sadiq as Vice President. Trustee appointments were also finalized, with Dr. Aslam Nasir, Dr. Noman Ehsan, Dr. Khalid Irshad, and Mr. Shahid Sahu joining the board. Future events were planned, including a meeting in Manchester, a potential gathering in Dublin, and a Gala Night in London. The Society also discussed ongoing initiatives with the North American Nishtarian Association and announced a series of webinars covering topics such as medical ethics, GP training, and career development. Additionally, legal matters related to NSUK’s charitable status were addressed, with the name “NSUK” officially approved for registration. The meeting concluded with a lunch session.
On May 18, 2024, Professor Amjad Shad visited the Neurosurgery Department of South Punjab to conduct an impactful training session for doctors in the region. The event, hosted by the Neurosurgery Department, was a comprehensive and academic day that provided valuable insights into advanced neurosurgical techniques, particularly in the area of skull base surgery. Attendees had the privilege of learning from Dr. Amjad Shad’s expertise, and the collaboration added great depth to the training. The event was an excellent opportunity for continuous learning and professional development in the field of neurosurgery, furthering the knowledge and skills of medical professionals in Southern Punjab.
