5th NSUK Meeting

The 5th NSUK meeting, held on January 12, 2025, at the Mercure Hotel Birmingham West, was a productive gathering where board members discussed the organisation’s performance in 2024, reviewed the success of last year’s Nishter workshops, and set strategic goals for 2025. Updates were shared on the NSUK charity registration, and a heartfelt prayer was offered for Abaan, the son of Dr. Zammad Chistie. The meeting also touched on enhancing NSUK’s social media presence and the launch of a monthly newsletter. A special appreciation was extended to Dr. Faraz for his remarkable efforts in creating the NSUK website, which has been instrumental in providing the organisation with a professional online presence. The meeting concluded with a family lunch at Tipu Sultan Restaurant, fostering connection and collaboration among attendees.

NSUK UK recently hosted a highly informative webinar focused on helping candidates excel in the PLAB 1 exam, featuring expert speakers Dr. Abdullah Ashraf, a Gold Medalist from Allama Iqbal Medical College, and Dr. Fatima Ahmed, an O&G Resident from Bolan Medical College. The session covered essential topics, including a breakdown of the PLAB 1 exam structure, effective preparation strategies, recommended resources, and materials to optimize your study efforts. Attendees also learned strategies to confidently tackle multiple-choice questions, avoid common mistakes, and improve overall performance. Expert speakers, including Dr. Shahid Sahu, Dr. Dureshahwar Shahid, and Dr. Arham Sahu, provided valuable guidance on crucial aspects such as career coaching, CV and interview preparation, higher specialty applications, and the medical placement process. Attendees also gained in-depth knowledge about visa requirements, documentation, and essential UK training pathways to help them successfully integrate into the UK’s healthcare system.

NSUK Leadership Meets Punjab’s Health Minister for Upgrading Stroke and Neurosurgery Services

On November 17th, 2024, the leadership of the National Stroke and Neurosurgery Institute (NSUKI), including Dr. Shafqat Bukhari, Dr. Amjad Shad, and Dr. Fareed Zafar, met with Punjab’s Health Minister, Mr. Salman Rafique, in Lahore. They discussed upgrading stroke and neurosurgery services, focusing on the procurement of a vital angiography machine for NSUKI.

The Health Minister expressed his support for the project, which will significantly enhance patient care at NSUKI. This collaboration aims to improve healthcare services and ensure better treatment for stroke and neurosurgery patients in Punjab.

On 21st June, NSUKI hosted a significant meeting to welcome Dr. Muhammad Zeeshan, MD, the President of NANA. Many prominent Nishtarians were in attendance, making the event a memorable gathering of support and unity. During the meeting, a key agreement was reached between NSUKI and NANA to collaborate closely for the future development of Nishtar Medical University. Their initial focus will be on advancing Neurosurgery programs and facilities, marking the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at the betterment of Nishtar and its community.

4th NSUK Meeting in Dublin

The Executive Committee Meeting of NSUK took place on September 15, 2024, at Vela Restaurant in Liffey Valley Park, Dublin. The event was attended by President Prof. Amjad Shad, Secretary Shafqat Bukhari, Dr. Dure Shahwar, Dr. Shahid Sahu, and Executive Member for Ireland, Athar Sheikh, along with guests including IPPA Chairperson Prof. Mohammad Mukhtar and 25 members of the Nishtarian Family Ireland. After the opening Tilawat by Dr. Kafeel Sherani, attendees introduced themselves to the NSUK executives. Prof. Shad and Dr. Sahu shared the progress and objectives of NSUK, with Dr. Sahu emphasizing the legalities of the organization’s constitution. The meeting saw key decisions, including the adoption of “NSUKI” as the name for the Irish Chapter and the sharing of Nishtarian Family Ireland’s member data for future membership invitations. This event marked a new chapter of unity and collaboration, paving the way for a promising future for Nishtar and Nishtarians across the UK and Ireland.
